Why do the whole house at once
A continuous floor with no transitions between rooms, no height changes at doorways, one product to maintain and match, one crew that knows the house, one quote with one per-foot rate that is lower than doing rooms one at a time, and one disruption instead of five. For families who have put off floors room by room for years, doing it once is usually cheaper and always less painful.
Staging
The measure produces a sequence. A common plan: bedrooms and halls on days one and two while the household lives in the main areas; living and dining on day three while bedrooms are back in use; the kitchen on day four, appliances pulled in the morning and reset by evening; stairs on the last day. Furniture moves with the stages. Tile removal days are planned when the household can be out.
Product for the whole house
Most whole-house projects use one rigid-core vinyl plank throughout, which is waterproof everywhere and needs no transitions within the manufacturer's run limits. Others pair laminate in living areas with coordinating vinyl plank in wet rooms. Long, wide planks reduce seams and make open plans feel bigger. Whatever the choice, the installer plans expansion breaks at doorways so they disappear.
Subfloor across the house
A whole-house tear-out exposes the whole subfloor at once, which is the moment to fix squeaks, soft spots and old water damage everywhere rather than one room at a time. The quote includes the prep identified at the measure and a clear note on how the rest is priced before it is done.
Stairs
Two-story houses get stairs last, with matching treads and nosings glued and fastened, landings floored to match, and risers finished to suit. Stairs are priced per step and usually take a day.
On the quote
Every room's square footage with waste, product by name and price, underlayment, removal by type, disposal, subfloor prep, transitions and trim, stairs by step, appliance and furniture handling, labor, tax, deposit and payment terms, and the staging schedule. Approved in writing before anything is ordered.
